Fixing Heating Panel Lights

Hi all,

I know that this topic was covered hundreds or even thousand times on different forums, but I know how annoying it is to have only one bulb working on your heating panel, so I decide to changed. I thought what possibly can go wrong or be so difficult that I can not manage. Well let see.....

1. First we need to remove the front panel from the A/C unit flat screwdriver should do the job, Carefully lift up one of the sides and the panel will just come off.

2. There is 4 screws (Philips) that have to be unscrew followed by one underneath the radio unit
(please note that i have not included radio unit on this simply because I don't have original radio anymore but it is very simple to remove just press two locks each on the bottom side and pull radio out)

3. Now that you have all the units loose remove slowly bottom one it will help you to take the top A/C Unit. Disconnect all wiring.

4. At this point you should have your A/C unit removed and ready to remove bulbs. Now you can remove the back cover  y unscrewing screws on each of the corner with the Allen key to make it easier but it is not necessary. And remove three bulbs with small flat head screwdriver.

5. While you are at it you might as well change or replace bulbs on the light switch. It is way easier just unscrew two screw at the bottom, remove wiring and remove bulbs same way as on the A/C unit.

6. You should have your bulbs now two different types and here were the trouble and fun starts.

You can go to Volvo main dealership and purchase them from "as little as" €7.00. Quick mathematics you need 6 bulbs so 6x7=42 and that is not so little anymore.....

So I decide to search for them in scrap yard and I found few S/V40 from different years but no luck with the bulbs. Either they were gone all the whole units were gone. SO I pick up whatever I could 😂

Most of them did not fit so a bit of waste time, however I keep them you never know when you might need them.... And thane I come a cross the bulbs from C70(radio) that looked a like and could do the job.(top C70 bottom V40)

So lets do this:

1. Carefully remove bulb from its housing a knife should do the job this is very easy

2. The V40 bulb on the sides have metal connectors you can remove them with a flat head screwdriver, that will reales the wiring and you can take the bulb off. Simply insert the new bulb in to the housing put back connectors and cut off wires if the too.

3. Now the small ones they are bit difficult as you need to unsolder them from housing and solder new ones in, bit of time consuming and tricky. At this point I give an advice buy new bulbs just in case you gonna lend up with this same problem as me. They did not work for me and I was to tired  to repeat all the process again. It does not bother me to much...

Back to the A/C unit.

It Turns out that only one of the bulbs worked 😡😡😡.  Next day I Went to shop purchase a back of new bulbs for the price of €12.42 for 10pax and repeat operation again.

Putting all back together is very simple just revers all the steps.

It took me 3 days of work, mounting and removing unit and again and again but at the end vuala!!!

I hope  you find interesting this write up and it will help you someday.
